Artist's Comments

I have mixed feelings about this one. I have a LOT to learn about how to use colors and light sources. But it wasn't a bad try and it makes a cute (if not slightly creepy) image of a scene between Gale and Leo.

To better explain, =katanisk and I were pencil jamming roleplay scenes the other night, and this is what I came up with. It's not technically a scene we actually did but it's close enough! The horse is Hhoota, previously named Lock'leh'Crowe. I changed the name because the old one is a pain in the ass to type.. XD and Hhoota just seems more fitting.

I don't know what's happening, and there's no reason Hhoota's footprints should be glowing, I just did it to fill some empty space. I also chose not to draw Leo's wings because they would have covered his whole body, and I didn't want that.

Hhoota is another form of Gale's, rarely taken. It should only appear in dreams.

It was worth the effort, I learned a few things!

This is a beautiful piece. I love the colors, the composition, and the way the characters interact. The jeans-and-tshirt look plays well against the mystical environment and Hhoota, and that red gives just the right dash of complementary color.

Colors: I love the colors that you've chosen for the characters and the environment. The green tones give the painting a very dream-like quality. The color of your lightsource is a bit ambiguous, especially on the Hhoota himself. It's a bluish-greenish color on the walls and the boy, but a pure-white light on the Hhoota. Hhoota is grey, so he should be taking on some of the colors of what is around him, as well as the color of the lightsource. Don't be afraid of giving him other colors, you won't lose the grey.

Composition: Excellent. The characters are well positioned to each other, the cave, and the canvas.

Perspective: Hhoota fits into this environment very well. Leo a little less so. Where his feet and leg (and tail) meet the ground, he is at a slightly different perspective than the ground. This gives a bit of a feeling like he's sunk into the ground, especially on his left foot.

Anatomy: Going along with the above comment is also the general anatomy of Leo's legs. His right lower leg is a bit shorter than his left lower leg. I really like how the body is twisted and the tail is wrapped, however, as that gives emotion and feeling to a character whose face we do not see.

Details: I actually really like the glowing footprints. They're the exact detail you needed there. The tiny plant under Hhoota's foot is quite charming as well.

Overall, this is a lovely work. If this were the cover of a comicbook or a graphic novel, it would catch my attention on the store shelf.

You already know how much I love this, but I'm gonna TALK ANYWAY.

The lighting on the background just takes my breath away and just UGHGNN WOW. The poses are great, and Leo really does look like "holy crap!!" I like that you have his tail curled around on the ground. And that little glow from Hhoota's eyes is so eerie but so awesome.

XD This is beautiful! I love it! Thanks for putting so much time into this, the end result is amazing!

wow those details are awesome 8D love that cave... (hard for me to do rocky surfaces) but this turned out great 8D

only thing I would mention about the light source thing... is I would put a very light wash of turquoise (like the rock color) over the colors of the characters... to show that they kind of reflect the shadows and color of light bouncing off of the cave walls that surround them :>
