Artist's Comments

Oooone more stillshot.. maybe just one.. maybe.. will probably do more. They're fun.

This could have been colored better but I was fighting with myself about finishing it (I'm not happy with the composition, I never really was). But my friend Kit could use a perk up and I needed the practice, so I went and finished. XD

I tried to see how much I could accomplish with how little.. nooot sure about the results. But worth it for the learning experience! I still think my colors are getting better.

I may eventually offer fully colored stillshot commissions like these as commissions, I'm not sure what the price would be yet. Unfortunately it would probably have to lean toward a higher range because I spend so much time and detail on backgrounds.

Gale has never looked more like a pedophile.

JEEZ GALE.

(He is not a pedophile. He's just a silly old man that lives in a dark house).

I really like this... from the expressions, to the posing... this piece paints a nice story. The background is well done also, and I really like the crisp, clean coloring. Nice work!

Well for something that detailed you could pretty easily charge $50+, that'd only be if you go that insane with the background. The general rule with commissions I've noticed is "if people will pay it, charge it" which is kind of mean haha but if people will pay $50 and up for something like this by all means you should because of the amount of work this probably took.

Really my only suggestion on this is to do a bit more with the lighting. You have a lot of tones that are blending together like the browns of the wall are blending into the bookcase thing. And I'm a little unclear of where the light source is, like most the objects seem like it's coming from the upper right but others don't.

Definitely keep working on colors, you're getting better with them all the time. I think you've pretty much surpassed what I can do haha

Thank you so much, man-- this is absolutely gorgeous. You never fail to blow my mind with the sheer amount of detail you pack into your backgrounds. I could seriously spend all day looking at this.

You already know how much I love how you draw Leo, especially when he's interacting with your guys-- seriously this picture is so cute.

I did need a perk-up and I really, really appreciate this. <3 Love youuuuu.

- In every 100 people that want to write a book, only 1 sits down and starts it.
- In every 100 that start writing, only 1 will complete it.
- In every 1,000 that complete their book, only 1 will get it published...

which one are you??

I really love this. The atmosphere and the colouring are spot on!

This isn't really a critique-- more of a useless factoid-- but if he's imping a feather on that wing, traditional imping is only done with flight feathers; he seems to be repairing a covert, which wouldn't have any structural impact on flight. With a wing that big it would certainly be possible to imp a new feather onto a broken shaft, but it'd only be for cosmetic reasons.

That said, fantasy is fantasy and I'm not sure feather imping is what you were implying with this; it just reminded me of it. It's a beautiful image, and I love it. <3

*broken shaft of a covert, rather. It'd be impossible to do that on a typical (normal-sized) raptor wing because the shafts are too small, the kid's wings are more than big enough to do that with!
